• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

    Child Discipline

Okay, something happened today that completely changed my viewpoint on this, and I thought "I ought to put it in the thread." So, we had a nice, two hour drive to my aunts house today. I was playing Animal Crossing, when my three year old brother bolts awake, instantly crying. This isn't a...

I've been trying to convey that the entire time! Should've used an analogy.

How about this- we all have our opinions, and posting in this thread isn't going to change anything. Apparently you guys hold tight to your ideals, which is great, even though I personally don't agree with them. That's a great trait, and I admire you for it. But obviously it's not going to...

    Child Discipline

That's not true... Do you really think anyone wants kids to be scarred for life? You're speaking for the smaller party, that's what I'm saying- if you're against child discipline, don't do it. Plain and simple. But for some kids it does work, despite what you think. Someone told me to stop...

    Child Discipline

So I'm back. Yeah, I'm twelve. My parents do child discipline, so I bid you kindly saying that I know what it is because I have experienced it in the past. When was the last time any of you guys got disciplined? Five, six years ago? Yeah. Also, I agree with some of your statements...

    Child Discipline

... that doesn't mean erase it from the picture. But if you're doing it and its obvious that it's less than effective for your child, you're not being a very good parent. You still need to do it to children if effects. You know what- you guys are being stubborn, I'm out.

Hmm, lemme think. Oh yeah, I remember! That's child abuse. People do not die from a few smacks on the butt or hands or whatever. That is not fatal. That is not lethal. It is discipline. I love how this world is so confused with child discipline and absuse. "oh no I'm scarred for life...

    Child Discipline

Ugh, how do I put this in words? Child discipline, yes, is a last resort. That doesn't mean never do it. We have been doing this for as long as humankind has been around. Is there a nuclear holocaust? Is everyone dying a terrible death from one kid who got hurt as a child? No. It's not...

It doesn't matter, she said her mom is really nice and always has good advice.

So then why in the world are you permanently scarred if she hasn't even touched you since you were little?

    Child Discipline

There is a very "clear-cut line," between child discipline and child abuse. Discipline is done knowing that you're only doing it to make your child a better person for it. Child abuse is just pure spite, and I have no tolerance for it.

    Child Discipline

I love how you guys just act like it's so terrible. It's not. Are you going to be permenantly scarred by what happened? If the answer is yes, then it wasn't child discipline, it was child abuse, nuff said.

    Child Discipline

Okay. But don't take hitting out of the image entirely- I mean, I don't mean to sound vicious, but it is completely necessary at times. No, certainly don't do it all the time. Yes, make em sit on the steps or put their nose in the corner. But every once in a while, I believe it is completely...

    Child Discipline

Okay, I see where you're coming from, guys. But you're not doing parenting, "Wrong." The way I see it, discipline is completely necessary at certain times. Chalumeau, I'm sure that must have been terrible, but that was probably child abuse, not discipline. That is WAY out of line...

    Child Discipline

Okay, this is just... a little out of line. I'm not sure what religion you guys are, but I'm going to use this quote from the bible (I'm not using it religiously, so don't sue me): Proverbs 19:18;Discipline your children while there is hope. Otherwise you will ruin their lives. Aura, I...
